Abstract

This thesis examines the role played by fairy tales and folklore in the settings and geographical imagination of five Victorian novels: Emily Bronte's "Wuthering Heights," George Eliot's "Silas Marner" and "Felix Holt," Charles Dickens' "Barnaby Rudge," and Elizabeth Gaskell's "North and South."
