dc.description.abstract | A Seattle Police Department (PD) directive that states the policy for inquiries into immigration status and offers “guideline[s]” such as: officers cannot request documentation to determine someone’s immigration status; and officers will not initiate contact based on a person’s immigration status or ask for information pertaining to it. The directive reminds officers that Seattle Municipal Code (SMC) 4.18.010 dictates that the PD will assist federal authorities “as resources allow” while prioritizing the local PD’s needs. Sometimes officers will assist federal authorities in criminal matters. | |
